Prof. Jamidu H.Y. Katima, a chemical engineer born in Bukoba (Tanzania) in 1955, He has been working with the University of Dar es Salaam since he graduated with a B.Sc. (Eng) in 1982. He obtained his PhD from Leeds University in UK in 1990. He has served as Head of Department of Chemical and Process Engineering (2000 – 2001), Dean of Faculty of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering (2001-2008), and now he is the Deputy Principal of College of Engineering and Technology, University of Dar es Salaam. Prof. Katima has been involved in the activities of chemicals management in his country. He chaired the Steering Committee that prepared the Tanzanian National Profile. Prof. Katima has also been one of the Lead Authors of Chapter 4 of the Third Assessment Report of the IPCC and he is currently a Member of the IPCC - Task Force Bureau on Inventory representing Anglophone Africa, Vice President Intergovernmental Forum on Chemical Safety (IFCS), the President of the Institution of Engineers Tanzania and Co-Chair of International POPs Elimination Network (IPEN) and a registered expert with the Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel (STAP) of the Global Environmental Facility (GEF). |

Saada Juma’s professional expertise is Environmental Planning and Management. She was a high school biology teacher for ten years and is founder member of one of the first environmental NGO in Tanzania back in 1985. Through the years she has attended several training programmes and fora in the field of environmental management/natural resources conservation and NGO management. After her postgraduate studies Saada K. Juma has worked as a consultant for several national and international organizations. Her expertise lies in Environmental Assessment; Environmental Planning/Mainstreaming; Conventional and Participatory Project Planning, Management and Evaluation; Feasibility and Market Studies; Training; Mobilization, Promotion and Sensitization; and other field and desktop assessments and evaluation. She has skills in several non-technical areas. She has managed a number of projects under the auspices of the AGENDA NGO and has served on numerous national environmental and development committees including several of the National Environment Management Council. She is a Fellow to the Leadership and Environment (LEAD) International Programme and Country Representative of the Blacksmith Institute New York. |

Mr. Silvani Mng'anya is an Agricultural Engineer by training, also did his postgraduate studies in Environmental Engineering (MSc). He is a registered Graduate Engineer with the Tanzania Engineers Registration Board (ERB). He has done professional training on chemical and chemical waste management including Safeguarding and Inventory of Obsolete Pesticides, Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Inventory Procedures. Other studies include Environmental Management and Development, Orientation Course on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Design and Application of Constructed Wetlands in Wastewater Treatment, Air Pollution and Waste Management. He has worked with AGENDA as a Programme Officer from 1996 to March 2002, Executive Secretary March 2002 – May 2004 and Honorary Secretary from May 2004, coordinating a Global Project on the elimination of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), the International POPs Elimination Project (IPEP) in the Anglophone Africa. He has organized national and international events on the Stockholm Convention on POPs and participated in the Intergovernmental Forum on Chemical Safety (IFCS) and the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM). Assistant in the compilation of Tanzania Air Pollution Status and Fact Sheet (2002/03). He’s interest is working on chemical, chemical waste and solid waste management. |

Mr. Bashiru Abdul Hassani is a social scientist with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and a postgraduate diploma from the Institute of Social Studies, the Hague, the Netherlands. He has worked over 7 years as a Programme Officer for AGENDA for Environment and Responsible Development and also as a Consultant for JSB EnviDep Ltd of Dar es Salaam (an Environment and Development Management Consultants Company). He has done several consultancies on environmental impact assessments, community pesticide monitoring, community based natural resources management and communication and awareness creation activities. His professional expertise is environmental assessment and management, impact assessment of pesticide use, social economic needs assessment, participatory project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation; and desktop assessments and evaluation. |
